Starting at the top cable car station, this high-altitude path highlights the alpine area of Huanglong's great biodiversity. The 5-kilometer path winds across large meadows bursting in June with wildflowers. Against the snow-capped mountains, rare varieties of gentians, edelweiss, and primroses produce a natural carpet of colours. The chance to see indigenous species include the red panda in their natural environment and the golden snub-nosed monkey will appeal to wildlife buffs. Although the elevation (over 3,500 meters) requires appropriate acclimatisation, the somewhat level terrain makes this trek accessible. Expert guides give instructional hikes outlining the sensitive alpine ecosystem and its significance for the diversity of the area. The route is a great choice for scientific study and nature photography because of various rest places with interpretative panels about the local flora and animals.
