Discovering Huanglong: 10 Spectacular Hiking Routes in China's Golden Valley

8. The Hidden Valley Circuit

Adventurers on this less well-known 4.8-kilometer path explore hidden parts of Huanglong by means of departure from the main tourist destinations. The path investigates a remote valley where unusual geological formations and immaculate ponds remain mostly unaltered. The road passes through alpine meadows and bamboo groves, with flashes of traditional Tibetan herding territory. Along the path, some natural springs show the early phases of travertine development, therefore offering information on the evolution of the larger pools. The path provides access to a remote viewing point with distinctive views of the main valley—views rarely seen by guests. On this slower path, one is more likely to come across local fauna including many butterfly species and small mammals. Though kept in good shape, this trail calls for appropriate hiking gear and good physical condition.
