Guilty Pleasures We All Have: You're Not Alone

4. Being Extra Nice To Airport Security To Not Be Suspicious

You treat the TSA staff extra kindly when you pass airport security and feel as though they are viewing you suspiciously. Though they never believed you were suspect, now they could. Now you are being removed from line for a full-body inspection since what regular person is especially pleasant at three in the morning? This contradictory action is the ideal illustration of how our thoughts may operate against us under great stress. We run more danger coming across anything but the more we strive to seem "normal." It's a fine line between being courteous and overindulging to the degree of suspicion. This phenomena is not confined to airports either; many people feel this way in interactions with law enforcement or other power authorities. The irony is that most security guards are taught to identify odd behavior, therefore too friendly behavior occasionally fits in that category. Thus, keep in mind that usually your best bet is a simple grin and following directions the next time you're passing security. Simply be yourself; you'll probably fly through without any trouble instead of small chat or excessive happiness.
