6. Late Summer Splendor (August)

Late summer gives Blue Lake a different look since the scenery starts to gently change toward fall while still exuding the warmth and energy of summer. The lake water's greatest temperature during this time makes ideal conditions for long swimming and water sports. Early autumn colors start to show in several of the surrounding species, giving the forest a somewhat deeper green tint. The soft buzz of insects and the calls of native birds fill the air to produce a comforting natural symphony. With usually warm days and pleasantly mild evenings that make outdoor activities more fun, this season has some of the most constant weather patterns of the year. Early mornings and late evenings find the lake's surface typically remarkably quiet, providing ideal mirror-like circumstances that photographers find enticing. Late summer also brings a lot of wild berries and fruits to the nearby forest, which draws different wildlife species and offers great chances for nature study. While the warm water temperatures let for overnight swimming under the stars, the extended darkness hours create ideal circumstances for evening events.
