9. Late Autumn Serenity (November)

Late autumn sets over Blue Lake, and the scene changes to become a more subdued but still quite lovely phase. While the first traces of winter start to show, the remaining bits of fall foliage produce an elegant palette of subdued browns and golds. The lake changes throughout this time, with steel-gray waters mirroring the dramatic sky conditions common of this season. More often occurring morning frosts produce amazing crystalline formations along the shoreline and around nearby plants. The air gets especially clearer and smells like almost winter. Especially during sunrise and sunset, this season provides some of the most stunning cloud formations and light conditions of the year. Many animals migrate or adjust to the impending winter conditions, therefore changing the patterns of wildlife. The shortened daylight hours focus outdoor activities into shorter intervals, which increases urgency and respect of every minute of natural light. Because cold air passes across comparatively warmer water, the surface of the lake often shows interesting patterns that provide special photography possibilities. Perfect for stargazing and night photography, this time also delivers some of the most pure night sky of the year.
